Volunteers Needed!

Did you know...

The Walkathon Drive is GHSC's most impactful fundraiser, providing for ALL School-Wide Enrichment Programs, Community Events, Scholarships, and miscellaneous Guadalupe needs for the year! It is crucial to fill in the funding gaps that state and USD budgets do not provide for.

Your student brought home their Walkathon Info Packet this past Thursday! Please check their backpacks and review it with them. You are welcome to have your child(ren) create fundraising videos to send to family and friends!

TWO Parts to The Walkathon:

1) Fundraising Drivebetween 10/3 - 10/25.  The goal is for each student to raise $175 to help fully fund Guadalupe's dynamic enrichment programs & events.  The school-wide goal is to raise $65K.  Adventure starts here and now... together, we can do great things!

2) School-Wide Walkathon Event (Wednesday, 10/23 from 8:15am - 10am). This celebratory event is held on the upper field with the whole school walking/running laps, trekking to fun music, enjoying themed activity stations, and partaking in allergy-friendly sweet treats!

Traffic Volunteering- Essential to Student Safety!
We need your help - 1x/Month!

Many big-hearted parents have answered the call to help our community stay safe!  Check out  October VOLUNTEER OPENINGS HERE to help with morning traffic.

TRAFFIC REMINDERS:

RED CURBS

Do not park or stop along red curbs - it is dangerous and illegal.

NO PARKING in Drop-Off / Pick-Up Zones

Do not park or leave your car if dropping off along the Vera Cruz curb, next to the track fence. PULL FORWARD when entering these zones.

JAYWALKING

Cutting across Vera Cruz or Puerto Vallarta is very dangerous - Guadalupe's policy is to teach students of all grades to use crosswalks at all times and we ask family members to set the example.

NO U-TURNS

Do not make U-Turns on the surrounding narrow streets during busy morning drop offs- it is dangerous to those walking and driving.

STOP SIGNS

Notice that the Vera Cruz/Puerto Vallarta intersection has 3 stop signs.

Drivers must STOP @ ALL STOP SIGNS (including those of crossing guards).

YIELD TO CROSSING GUARDS

Pedestrians- please obey the crossing guard Stop Signs so they may effectively and safely direct all traffic at crosswalks.

NO LEFT-HAND TURNS INTO PARKING LOT ENTRANCE

Left-hand turns during high traffic times are prohibited.  Signs are posted at the entrance and exits of the main parking lot.

COLEMAN GATE IS LOCKED 8:05AM - DISMISSAL BELL

Please only drop off at the Vera Cruz entrance.  Do not prop open the gate- this creates avoidable student safety issues.

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO KEEP OUR COMMUNITY SAFE BY BEING PROACTIVE AGAINST POTENTIAL ACCIDENTS!

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!

IMPORTANT ITEMS FROM MRS. HAMCHUK

  1. District Illness Absence Policy: If your student has vomited, had diarrhea, or run a fever of 100˚F or above in the last 24 hours, please keep your student home until they are symptom-free for 24 hours. Please report your student's illness and absence daily by calling the Guadalupe Attendance Line - Please call ‭(408) 927-9452‬
  2. NEW- Student Absent Calls/Notices are released @ 9am per USD's emergency procedure policy.  Regardless of whether you have already called or messaged about your child's tardy or absence, you will receive a notice through Parent Square.  Disregard if you have already contacted the school OR use the message as a reminder to update the Front Office.
  3. District Independent Study: If your child will be absent for 3 consecutive school days (and no longer than 14 days), you must coordinate a short-term independent study option with your teacher.  Parents must contact their teacher or the office at least two weeks in advance for a link to the request form.
  4. YARD DUTY SHORTAGE:  KINDERGARTEN NEEDS LUNCH YARD DUTY VOLUNTEERS!
    • Shift openings-  11:50am- 12:25pm (M, W, F have big needs!)
    • If you are interested in helping, please contact Mrs. Hamchuk hamchukj@unionsd.org.
  5. Forgotten something at home? Parents should leave lunches, water bottles, glasses, etc on the table outside the office to avoid interrupting class instruction.  Please LABEL their items!  Tell your students to check this table in case they forget something - this way we avoid calling into classes and interrupting instruction.
  6. Label Bottle/Lunch Boxes/Clothing: Please label all the items your student carries or layers of clothing they can take off.
  7. Have a non-urgent question or comment for the office? Please avoid the office first thing in the morning- it's a busy time when Mrs. Hamchuk is helping tardy students get to class.  You are welcome to email or visit at a later time in the day.

All district guidelines are provided in the Union District Parents' Annual Rights Notification.

If you have any questions please email Mrs. Hamchuk <hamchukj@unionsd.org>

This year's Yearbook Cover Contest will launch in December! Students can start brainstorming now!

Need to Drop-off Early? Mileage Club starts 7:40am

Did you know students are not allowed on campus unattended before 8:05 AM?

The perfect solution is to register for Guadalupe's Mileage Club. Five days a week (weather and vacation days permitting), a parent volunteer will monitor student runners on the upper track while they do laps. It's a great way for your student to start the day and parents can get on the road to work earlier! Students earn prizes for milestones they meet. All students must be pre-registered.
