This Guadalupe community reading event is an opportunity for the whole family to come together and join in on the fun.  Let's break last year's record and read 3,000 books!

Don't forget to use the BookFest submission form so we can reach a new level together! Students can send in photos of the books they love or read.  Older siblings, grandparents, parents, and family are welcome to join this reading challenge, too. The last day of submission is Friday December 8th.

IMPORTANT ITEMS FROM MRS. HAMCHUK

  1. EVENT RSVP AVAILABLE: The Visitor/Event RSVP Form is available again. Please note, this form will be taken down 3 days prior to an event, which means you won't be able to register last minute. Holiday celebrations are coming, RSVP NOW! for all the remaining events of the school year. When you RSVP a badge will be preprinted and you won't have to stand in line to check-in. Button below for the form.
  2. NEW GARBAGE CANS: Students and parents will notice more garbage cans around campus over the next few weeks. Our GREEN TEAM has worked hard to improve recycling on campus. Please help us reinforce recycling on campus, reminding your students what goes in each of our color-coded cans.
      1. Green Can: Used for green waste; this can be leftover food, including bones, paper products covered in food, or even organic debris like leaves.
      2. Blue Can: This is for all recyclable maters, hard plastics, glass, cardboard, and pristine paper items.
      3. Gray Can: All remaining trash items should be put in the gray can; this can include soft plastics and any plastic material that cannot recycled.
  3. NO SCHOOL ON Friday, 11/10: Guadalupe will be closed 11/10 for Veteran's Day.
  4. District Illness Absence Policy: The cold and flu season is upon us. Please do not send your child to school sick! If your student has vomited, had diarrhea, or run a fever of 100˚F+ in the last 24 hours, please keep your student home until they are symptom-free for 24 hours. Please report your student's illness and absence daily by calling the Guadalupe Attendance Line - Please call ‭(408) 927-9452‬
  5. District Independent Study Change: Holidays are coming, and families like to travel. Reminder: the district has changed the Independent Study Contract Guideline. The guideline now states, "The minimum period for any short-term independent study option shall be three consecutive school days and no longer than 14 days." Parents are still required to contact their student's teacher at least two weeks in advance to request a contract to be set up.

5TH GRADE MARKETPLACE FUNDRAISER

5th Grade Marketplace will be open for business to all 1st-5th Grade students on November 27th, 28th and 30th during lunchtime!

This is a wonderful opportunity for 5th Graders to earn funds to offset Science Camp fees. Our young entrepreneurs have come up with amazing product ideas including succulent pots, carnival games, air fresheners, slime, Christmas cards, Christmas ornaments, and so many more!  Prices vary from $1, $2, $3 per item.

During the event, your kids may be asking for a few dollars to buy items during our marketplace. It's a great time to shop for the Holidays! Please support and empower our kids to earn their own funds!

SCIENCE FAIR @ GUADALUPE

CAFETERIA LUNCH FROM SCRATCH

You might have heard about many of the menu changes made this year at Guadalupe and across the district. The district heard parents call for healthier and less processed food options. Ms. Cherise, Guadalupe Cafeteria Lead, has been working hard this year to ensure two of the three entree options provided are made from scratch on-site. Below are the entree menus for the last two days.

  • Thu. 11/2: Full-Size BLT Sandwiches / Mandarin Chicken & Rice / Bean and Cheese Burrito

  • Fri. 11/3: Cheese Enchiladas / Chicken Ceasar Salad / Corn Dogs

In the Salad Bar, the student has choices like veggies (carrots, celery, salad) or fruit (apples, bananas) and once or twice a week, a fun treat/dessert like Yogurt Parfaits with fruit.

If you registered for the free meal program, please drop off the EBT card you received in the mail from the state to the front office. Please drop your card in the collection box shown left,

LOST & FOUND RACK IS FULL!!

Ms. Linda works hard to check almost all of the clothing and lunch items each day. The photo shown here was taken yesterday! The rack is officially filled and there are no more hangers left to fill them. I donated over 170 hangers last winter, thanks to my mother. We have more clothing items than ever, we are not having to lay or fold clothing on the rack.

  • NAMES: Please put your student name on any clothing that can be taken off, including hats. Don't forget to label water bottles and lunch boxes, too!
  • Remind your student to check the lost and found if notice something is missing. Parents can always find the lost and found rack in the cafeteria.

Parents please help us clear the rack before it's all donated on 12/20. There are some really nice and expensive jackets on that rack. Hate to see them gone forever. All of the jackets that are in good shape will be donated to One Coat program at the San Jose Migrant Education Center and another batch to the St. Andrew's Residential Programs for Youth.

SETUP BOOKFAIR EWALLET EARLY

The Holiday Book Fair is just a few weeks away (Dec. 5th-7th.) It's perfect timing to set up your student's Scholastic eWallet. The eWallet allows your student to go into the fair and purchase items. No more standing in a long line for the Book Fair for parents. Let the kids wait while you stand outside or wait in the car. Click here for detailed information on setting up your eWallet, or watch the video linked below for a step-by-step.

LAST WEEK TO ORDER GUAD SHIRT

We are making a third and final order for the Guadalupe Limited Edition T-shirt for 2023. The shirt show is available for preorder on the GHSC Toolkit Store.

INTERNATIONAL FAIR RECAP

Three weeks ago, the International Fair brought our school on a delightful journey around the world, made possible by the wonderful parent volunteers and everyone who joined in.

Students enjoyed bringing their passports to visit all 21 destinations:

Armenia 🇦🇲, Australia 🇦🇺, Azerbaijan 🇦🇿 , Belize 🇧🇿 , Brazil 🇧🇷 , China 🇨🇳 , HongKong 🇭🇰, India 🇮🇳 , Indonesia 🇮🇩 , Iran 🇮🇷 , Israel 🇮🇱 , Japan 🇯🇵 , Malaysia 🇲🇾 , Mexico 🇲🇽 , Montenegro 🇲🇪 , Pakistan 🇵🇰 , Singapore 🇸🇬 , South Korea 🇰🇷 , Taiwan 🇹🇼 , UK 🇬🇧 and Vietnam 🇻🇳 .

Through lively performances and delicious tastes from different cultures, our big Grizzly family shared laughs, grew closer, and celebrated the beauty of our diverse school community together.

Thank you to WeeYen Lim, Ella Wan, and the families who participated in making this wonderful community event a reality!

International Fair Poster Contest

Thank you to everyone who submitted a poster for our contest - the submissions were incredible and showed off our community's creativity and thoughtfulness.

A special shout out to each of our GRADE WINNERS:
TK/K: Lyla (Blaylock)                 3rd: Lauren (Sarringhaus)
1st: Preston (Maze)                   4th: Amelie (Harmon)
2nd: Len (Defazio)                     5th: Cherry (Dixon)

Overall winners:
Vanessa (Tse) and Arya (Burguillos)

The judges had a hard time only picking a handful of winners because everyone put so much time, thought, and effort into their posters. We should all feel proud of the work done by our amazing Grizzlies.

HAPPY FALL, GRIZZLY FAMILIES!

Thank you for staying involved in the life of our wonderful school and for being an important part of our community!
