SUBJECT: GHSC Newsletter: September Edition [copy]

WELCOME BACK, Family!

We hope you had many summer adventures and have been enjoying the first few weeks of the 2022/2023 school year.

, in this year's first edition of the GHSC Newsletter, we want to highlight that Giving Drive donations are low and happy to bring you updates and other news for the school year.

The Guadalupe Giving Drive is coming to a close next Friday, 9/9. The Giving Drive is vital to ensuring all students' needs are met in the classroom. Each grade has a suggested amount, and parents can find detailed information about their donation amount on GHSC.NET. It is customary that we always meet the Giving Drive goals to support our teachers. Right now, all seven grades are dangerously close to not meeting the goal set by the teacher, and at risk are class field trips and much more.

IMPORTANT ITEMS FROM MRS. HAMCHUK & MS. MANTLE

  • EMERGENCY DATA UPDATE: The Union School District will send an email with a link to verify your student's emergency contact info; it is a secure and green process that gives the school quick access to information on your child. Please check your email from Union School District for instructions to complete the emergency data update for your student. Updates are required for all students.
  • VOLUNTEERING: Classroom volunteering will begin after volunteers have been cleared through the office.  Volunteer names will be filtered through the office by the teachers only.  Any questions you have should go through your teacher first.

  • REPORTING ABSENCE: If your student will be absent (not attending school for the day), please call the absence line at 408-927-9452 and provide your child's name, with spelling, teacher, and the reason for the absence.

  • FORGOTTEN ITEM DROP OFFS: The office will not be calling classrooms for delivery of items forgotten at home.  Please let your child know to check the table outside the office for forgotten items.  Remember if your student forgets their lunch, they can get hot lunch for free.

  • TARDIES: If your student arrives after the 8:15 AM TARDY BELL, please have your student get a late slip at the front office before heading to the classroom.

  • DOCTOR APPOINTMENTS: The front office requests all medical appointments be scheduled after school if possible. If your student is going to be late to school because of an appointment, let your teacher know via email and be sure to ask the doctor for a doctor's note. • LOST & FOUND: The Lost & Found racks are already filling up. The racks can either be found in the cafeteria, outside in the lunch area or by the flag pole.

DROP OFF EARLY & GET SOME EXERCICE

Do you need to drop off your student before 8:05 AM? Joining Mileage Club provides exercise for your student, and parent supervision while on campus early. Students have already started reporting to Mileage Club on the track at 7:40 AM, and are completing a few laps before heading to their classrooms.

Students keep track of their laps and earn rewards for every milestone. Click on the Permission Form button below to signup and try to get to school before 7:55 AM to get a few laps done. The permission form must be completed before checking in at the track.

(Reminder: students are not allowed to come on campus before 8:05 AM due to no supervision, Mileage Club is the perfect solution.)

LUNCHTIME in the LIBRARY

One of the best parts of student life on the Guadalupe Campus is Lunchtime in the Library. Mrs. Mettler opens the library at lunchtime to allow kids to explore or find a new place to hang out with friends.

On Monday of this week, Mrs. Mettler opened the door, and the kids showed up with smiles. Books are already being checked out, and the reading has commenced. Thanks to a few parent volunteers, the library is opened at lunch and allows Mrs. Mettler to eat her lunch daily.

BIRTHDAY BOOK CLUB

Have you joined the Guadalupe Birthday Book Club?

In joining the Birthday Book Club, you are not only celebrating your student's birthday but also benefitting the Guadalupe Library by bringing new and exciting books to the library. A new book will be purchased in your student's honor and added to the library collection. Parents can find more info at GHSC.NET

Sponsors NEEDED!

GHSC is looking for additional sponsors to support our programs this academic year. Have your company lend their support through corporate sponsorship and take advantage of all of the benefits such as a banner on Coleman Avenue, your logo on the walkathon t-shirts, and much more! There are various tiers of support and one that will fit your interests. Contact Nancy Millward at sponsor.ghsc@gmail.com to get started!

STUDENT BOOK REVIEWS

Each Monday, students start their week by watching Good Morning Guadalupe. These announcements are also shared with parents on the GHSC Facebook Group. Returning this year are the GRIZZLY REVIEWS, an excellent opportunity for your Guadalupe Grizzly to show up on the morning announcement, sharing a review of a book they read.

Every student is welcome to film a review, and the whole family is welcome to join in on the fun. Submit a review by sending a short video. Details are available at GHSC.NET/READS.

WALKATHON '22 IS "TAKING OFF"

Grizzlies! We are so excited to "take off" into this new school year with Guadalupe's annual Walkathon fundraiser drive that leads into our school-wide celebration event... it's always a huge blast!

First, join your school community to raise money and fund our amazing extracurricular programs such as Ceramics, Dance, Music, and Outdoor Learning Areas. These programs ensure that our kiddos thrive and meet their fullest potential. Parents will be able to share their student's personalized fundraising page with family, friends, neighbors, and even on social media. Fundraiser drive window: 9/21-10/14

Then, come and cheer on the students as they walk/run laps on the track on Walkathon Day, Wed. 10/12. A detailed grade schedule will be provided in the GHSC October Newsletter and within the Walkathon Info Packet we will send home.

Please be on the lookout for more updates (and this year's theme) in the coming weeks. For more preliminary information about the Walkathon  donations, please visit GHSC.NET/WALKATHON
