SUBJECT: GHSC Newsletter: January Edition

Happy New Year, Family!

As we usher in 2022, there is no better feeling than starting the new year with gratitude. Thank you all for your generous donations during our holiday giving drive and Second Harvest Food Drive. We exceeded our giving goals which is a true testament to our community. As we look towards the second half of our school year, we hope for more opportunities to build friendships together and continue making memories among our community. We wish you more moments of laughter, joy, and safety in celebrating the start to 2022!

Cheers,

Joyce Wong

GHSC President

(On behalf of GHSC Board)

GHSC is excited to see the return of BOOKFEST for 2022. A month-long reading event for students, parents, siblings, and even the extended family. We encourage readers to read all kinds of books, even in their native language. Last year the Guadalupe Community read 2,414 books, and we need your help breaking that record.

Visit GHSC.NET for more information on Bookfest and we hope to have more information on the Bookfest School-wide Party scheduled for January 26th.

IMPORTANT ITEMS FROM MRS. HAMCHUK

  1. FORGOTTEN ITEMS PROTOCOL: Parents who deliver lunches or other items for their students. Please communicate with your student beforehand about going to the office. You and check the table outside the office for their items. -Students will NOT receive a reminder call to the classroom.
  2. Emergency Updates: Parents are asked to ensure their student's emergency information is accurate every year. If this information is not current, it impacts updates they receive from the school and the district. We still have over 40 families who have not confirmed their info is current or provided edits. 47 missing forms. Please check your email or call Jeannie directly to help complete this process.
  3. Travel Reminder: As the year moves towards Ski Week (Feb.) and Spring Break (Apr.), your family is planning to travel. Please keep an eye on any changes that come down to travel guidelines for the county. If guidelines change, please watch for an email from the district to update recommended protocols. If you haven't received these updates, or you didn't receive the recent Superintendent Dr. Andrews email about the New Year, Grapefruit testing on January 6th. Please refer to number two above about updating Emergency Info.
  4. Attendance: When your student is out ill, please call each day they are out and please leave specific information on the attendance line (symptoms like a fever, cough, runny nose, stomachache, headache, etc. - this info is essential and tracked. If you are late due to a doctor or dentist appointment, please ask for an excuse slip from the doctor's office to ensure your tardy is excused.)
  5. Volunteers: We have a new sign-in system for volunteers. All volunteers and visitors entering campus during school hours must check in with their Driver's License. You will be required to complete health screening questions when signing in. Please be sure to sign out when you leave campus.
  6. Parents on Campus: Parents may pick students up on campus, but we ask that you not wait outside your student's classroom door. Doors have to be left open, and students don't need the added distraction.

If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Hamchuk <hamchukj@unionsd.org>

Shutterfly Grade Sites

Stay connected with your classroom by joining the NEW Guadalupe Shutterfly Grade Sites. Parents just join once and they are connected for the rest of your student's career at Guadalupe. The group carries on through Middle School and even High School. Just think of all the photos you will have access to through the archives that are banked at the end of each year. GRIZZLY REVIEWS

Good Morning Guadalupe goes out every Monday morning to all the students in class. Grizzly Reviews is an opportunity for your student to share a book they have read with the whole school. Parents can find more information on how to film and submit your students BOOK REVIEW, at GHSC.NET.

Have A Riddle to Share?

The Good Morning Guadalupe anchors need more riddles for riddle time.

They need RIDDLES

 and NOT JOKES.

A riddle is more like a puzzle or brain teaser and isn't always funny. In contrast, a joke's soul purpose is to make you laugh.

DO YOU HAVE GREAT PHOTOS?

The Guadalupe Yearbook Team needs photos to bring the Yearbook to life. Did you take photos on a SPIRIT DAY, WALKATHON, HALLOWEEN, or on campus during a class activity or playing with friends?

We will take all of those photos, even if it's one student or a large group of students. Parents have two ways to share their photos; your photos will help us build the 140+ page yearbook.

Any photo taken on campus is a great photo or even a school-related photo taken at home. Families can even submit photos for the Yearbook Contest that have already ended (Celebrating Generations, Playing with Friends Outside or this month's Share Fun December Traditions)

Email your photos to the Yearbook Team
