SUBJECT: GHSC Newsletter: November Edition

THANK YOU, FAMILY!

, in this November edition, we have new updates on campus opening, traffic safety, yearbook news and much more.

Dear Guadalupe Grizzly Community,

November is a special month reminding all of us to be filled with gratitude. Thank YOU, parent community, for stepping in to support our Grizzly needs through our recent fundraising events.

Through the Classroom Giving Drive, we received almost 100% of our classroom donation goals which directly funds your classroom needs. All proceeds received through the Classroom Giving Drive are entirely given to our teachers. You made their wish lists happen.

With the recent Walkathon event, we raised over $71K+ and all of the proceeds go directly to school needs, funding enrichment activities and school-wide needs.

Your financial generosity does not go unnoticed. Thank you for going above and beyond to support the Grizzlies!

Thankful,
Joyce Wong
GHSC Board President

PARENTS BACK ON CAMPUS

If you missed the recent news from the District and Mr. Jones, COVID guidelines have been changed. Parents are now allowed to come onto campus during student drop-off and pick-up times. Important notes:

  • Parents are not allowed to enter the classrooms on campus unless they are registered as essential staff.
  • The campus will be closed during school hours; please report to the office to access the campus.
  • Please make sure not to block the ramps to the classrooms.
  • Students are allowed to play after school, but a parent must be present.
  • Remind your students not to play on the playground if they are being picked up by car.
FAMILY DAY CARDS DUE...

Family Day returns to Guadalupe, and this year with COVID Guidelines, the GHSC is running a greeting card campaign for your students. Your classroom parent should have emailed you earlier this week about dropping off or submitting a card for your student to open. This is a  SURPRISE for the students. If you haven't found the email, contact roomparent.ghsc@gmail.com.

READY TO ORDER HOLIDAY CARDS?

Each year, the Guadalupe Home & School Club partners with Minted.com and Shutterfly to offer a discount while raising money for Guadalupe.

More information about the discounts and how you can share with Friends & Family to help raise money for Guadalupe can be found on GHSC.NET.

Books & Chess Needed

Library Lunch is going really well. The kids love it and we consistently have 20-35 students use the library to read quietly or exchange books each lunch.

Chess has become a standout favorite and the students rush to start a game. We need another chess set or two so that more students can play.

Does anyone have a set that they can donate?

Are you cleaning out your child's bookshelf? The library needs these common popular titles:

Hardcover Harry Potter - books 1-6

Hardcover Series of Unfortunate Events - Books 5-13

Hardcover BabySitter's Club & Babysitter's Little Sister's Graphic Novel

Hardcover DogMan

If you have any of the above books to donate or a chess set, please contact Mrs. Mettler mettlers@unionsd.org.

SPIRIT DAY: Heritage Day 11/19

In celebration of Family Day, students are invited to dress up on Friday, 11/19, to celebrate their family's heritage. Students can wear a hanbok, a kilt, a churidar, a traditional dance costume, or simply clothing made in their family's homeland or even a soccer shirt from a homeland team.

Portrait MAKEUP DAY 12/9

Did you miss PORTRAIT DAY last month, don't worry! Coming Thur. 12/9 students can get their photos taken on campus. This is also an excellent opportunity for parents unhappy with their October portrait to get a retake.

Parents can preorder their pictures after 11/11 on LIFETOUCH.COM. Paper order forms won't be available for pickup until the week of 11/29.

COMING SOON!

The holidays are a time for celebration, cheer and family.

It's also a season of giving!

Traffic Safety Team

The Traffic Safety Team is starting to see parents return to their office routines, which means shifts are opening up. Please consider signing up for at least one shift a week to help make sure the students are safe. We can undoubtedly open that spot up if you see a shift that has Maryam or Brian listed. Email trafficsafety.ghsc@gmail.com to request a spot to be opened up or if you have any questions.

Art Vistas Docents

Art Vistas is back in the classroom this month, and we still have a few classrooms that do not have a Parent Volunteer who can run the classroom lesson. Volunteers do not need any art background. Each lesson is planned out, and the best part is helping and watching the students work on projects.

Kinder ~ CONLEY / WING

1st ~ TAYLOR / KILLEN

2nd ~ HULL / FUJII

If your teacher is listed above and you're interested in helping, please contact artvistas.guadalupe@gmail.com

LOST & FOUND IS FULL

The Lost & FoundRack at Guadalupe is busting at the seams. Students are leaving so much on the playground and lunch tables. We are seeing 4-5 jackets/coats being added to the rack daily. Please remind your students to check the rack every week, or parents can check the rack themselves at the end of the school day.

DON'T FORGET; all the items will be pulled off the rack during the HOLIDAY BREAK and donated to Savers. We clear the rack three times a year.

TRAFFIC TOP 4 PROBLEMS

The Guadalupe Traffic Safety Team has seen three significant problems during DROP-OFF and PICK-UP times. We are heading in wet weather season, which means more parents are driving. PLEASE HELP US!!

~ ILLEGAL PARKING & STOPPING IN RED ZONE: Daily, the Safety Team witnesses and asks parents not to park or drop off students along the painted red curb.

~ STOP SIGNS: Please be sure to stop at the Stop Sign at Vera Cruz & Puerto Vallarta. We see many cars rolling or driving through the sign.

~ NEIGHBOR DRIVEWAYS: We are seeing an increase of parents dropping off students or parking in front of neighbor driveways & using driveways to make U-turns.

HELP FILL THE CART WITH OVERDUE BOOKS

The Library sees many students coming to their weekly library time, and they cannot check out books because they already have two books checked out.

With the Thanksgiving Holiday Break coming up later this month, it's a perfect time to check those bookshelves, desks, or toy bins for books that need to be returned to the Guadalupe Library. If your search is fruitful, we recommend the book(s) be placed in their backpacks, ready to go back to school.

If you would like to inquire about overdue book titles for your student, please email Mrs. Mettler mettlers@unionsd.org.

5th GRADE SCIENCE CAMP FUNDRAISER

On behalf of the 5th Grade Students who were fundraising by selling Boo Bags. Thank you to all the Guadalupe families and friends who ordered a Boo Bag or made a direct donation.

We also want to thank Rachael Ostrowski and Cheri Palladino for organizing the fundraiser and their volunteers.

Your generous donations will help several fifth-graders pay for their 5th Grade Science Camp fee.
