GHSC BOARD NOMINATIONS Due 5/7

Are you interested in joining the GHSC Board and help make the 2021/2022 school year a great success?

We are seeking "CO-" candidates for all positions. We are trying our best to ensure that with each year, the positions have extra support to best meet all the needs of our school.

Interested, please fill out the NOMINATION FORM and email it to the Vice President by Friday, May 7th. The new board will be voted in at the May 19th GHSC Board Meeting (see meeting schedule below.)

EASE INTO THE GHSC BOARD as a CHAIR

We understand jumping into a GHSC Board position can be a big step. Consider instead taking on a CHAIR POSITION. We have several Guadalupe Parents who are graduating out of their CHAIR positions they have occupied for two or more years.

One example, 5th grade parent ANH CLEMENS has been helping the Guadalupe Librarian with the BIRTHDAY BOOK CLUB (BBC) for at least 6 years. Thank you, Anh for all your time and dedication to the BBC. Her youngest is moving on to Dartmouth next year and a position like this is perfect for any parent to step in and run. We don't expect parents to reinvent the wheel, we just need a little bit of their time to make the Guadalupe Experience extra special. Listed in the image to right, are just some of the GHSC Chair positions that currently need filling.

You can find more information on our COMMITTEE & VOLUNTEER DESCRIPTION page. If you would like more information on these positions, or would like to take the lead on one, please email volunteer.ghsc@gmail.com.

FRONT OFFICE NEWS

IMPORTANT ITEMS FROM MRS. HAMCHUK

REPORTING YOUR STUDENT SICK UPDATE: Parents, when you call the Guadalupe Attendance Line to report your student "isn't feeling well," it creates the need for us to call you for more detail (in times of Covid).  If your student is staying home due to illness, Mrs. Hamchuk and Ms. Ferguson ask that you be specific with what ails the child.  What are the symptoms (i.e. fever of ??? degrees or no fever, and what other symptoms they are experiencing).

If your student is sick or will be absent. Please call the attendance line.

TRAFFIC UPDATE: NEW DROP-OFF & PICK-UP TIMES

Next Week, we move to our EXTENDED DAY Schedule for in-person learning. Please be sure to make the necessary changes to your personal schedules. Below is a list of the classes and their assigned pick-up windows. Please note the color-coded class names corresponds with the zones on the Drop-off / Pick-up Zone Map below.

Drop-off is still 8:10 - 8:25 AM, and your drop-off location is the same as your pick-up location. Please refer to the map below for more information.

12:05-12:15 PM PICK-UP
12:15-12:25 PICK-UP
Drop-off / Pick-up Zone Map

For students returning to Guadalupe for the first time and students moving from PM Cohorts, please make sure you note your pick-up/drop-off location based on the map below. For families with younger and older students. Your older student can enter the campus with your younger student and walk them to class, and continue to their upper-grade classroom. This will eliminate a second drop-off.

TRAFFIC UPDATE: CROSSWALKS & U-turns

With more cars coming to campus, it means more concern about safety! But, having six gates for students to enter campus reduces traffic along with Vera Cruz.

Here are a few important traffic issues

  • ALWAYS USE CROSSWALKS: No matter what grade you are in, students must use Crosswalks at all times.
  • NO U-TURNS: Please do not perform U-TURNS on Vera Cruz and Coleman
  • NO PARKING IN DROP-OFF/PICK-UP LANES: We know city signs are out of date, all drop-off/pick-up lanes are NO PARKING for remainder of school year.
  • STAY ON SIDEWALK: Students are not allowed to cut through the parking lot. Please help us teach your students to stay on the sidewalk.

Student safety during pickup and drop-off is an essential part of Guadalupe. Parent volunteers are our best solution to manage speed and traffic around the school. We are just asking for parents to volunteer for one shift; that's an easy 25-30 minutes helping us keep students safe. Grab a spot on our signup schedule below.

On Friday, 5/14, your student is welcome to wear something special that they have made. Friday is Do-it-Yourself Day. It can be jewelry, a hat or a clothing item, like a scarf or a shirt, even masks. Let their imaginations and hands run wild, creating something. Whether they are roomers or zoomers, we invite them to show up to class on Friday morning wearing something special they made. Take a photo and share on the GHSC Facebook group on 5/14 or share on a post we just made to inspire other students to create.
