Virtual Recess: Mr. Jones hosted a Virtual Recess over Zoom with the 5th-grade students, a new opportunity for students to connect with Mr. Jones. Overall he felt the experience was an excellent opportunity for the students. He is still exploring ideas for recess time. Students were broken up into break out rooms, and some rooms were given questions to create a group discussion. What he found is that 5th Graders would much rather play games in the rooms. Fourth grade is slated to be the next Virtual recess on Tues 8/31. Mr. Jones and the teachers will provide details by Monday, and parents are welcome to jump on or listen in the conversations.
Virtual Learning Concerns - Mr. Jones touched on parents' concern about the quantity or quality of the work being assigned to students. He expressed the importance of allowing all the grades to add more topics and classwork for students. Noting that Virtual Learning is being added in layers across all the grades by the teachers, which will be full speed or more prevalent by the second week of September.
On-Campus: Mr. Jones noted that only a few teachers utilize their classrooms for the daily class routines. Mr. Jones, Mrs. Hamchuk (front office admin), and Ms. Ferguson (school nurse) are on campus daily. Office hours are from 8 am-4 pm, but please contact Mr. Jones or Mrs. Hamchuk via email or phone before your arrival. A mask does need to be worn while on campus.
Messages for the Firegihters: Mr. Jones received some great messages for the women and men fighting the fires all over the bay area. He is still collecting written notes, artworks, or thank you cards to give out to the firefighters. Please email a photo of the work for Mr. Jones ~ jonesda@unionsd.org
