Welcome Family

The Guadalupe Home and School Club is kicking off the 20/21 School Year with the first edition of our monthly newsletter. We want to welcome all of our veteran Grizzly families back to school and join us in giving a big roaring welcome to over 80 new families to Guadalupe! As a parent at Guadalupe, you are a member of the Guadalupe Home and School Club. You can learn more about the club and get up to date information by visiting our home site GHSC.NET.

Guadalupe, we are in this together, and we want to ensure we all stay connected online and off through the new challenge of distance learning. The board would like to invite any parent interested in helping us continue building our community or helping bring some of these ideas listed below to life. Some of our ideas do come to fruition in the Community Meetings or the GHSC Board Meetings. We have several dates and time options for these meetings. A upcoming list is shared at the end of this email or can be found at GHSC.NET and our Facebook Group.

Interested in Helping?

ART VISTAS is RETURNING

Art Vistas will continue this year, in whatever way we can make it happen. We are looking for parent volunteer docents for our online classes. Volunteer docents, if comfortable, will run a short (less than 30 minutes) zoom lesson (hosted by the teacher) to discuss art prints in a shared slideshow. There will be six of these throughout the school year. Students will be introduced to an idea for a project and invited to create the art project on their own if they are interested.

Student or Parents can share their artwork by sharing on the Class Shutterfly Site. If a class doesn't have a docent, we will have videos that the teachers can share with the class for a short art lesson. Classroom Giving Drive NEEDS YOU!!!!

The Classroom Giving Drive is coming to a close this month! As of this morning, less than 35% of each grade have donated toward the Drive. The teachers are working to give their classes quality content and equity in the student's work and experiences.

One of the most significant changes will be online field trips. The funds will make these experiences a reality. Without these donations, grades will have to reprioritize students' experience, and chances to broaden their horizons will be diminished due to lack of funds. As always, we advocate for families to donate whatever amount that their household budget allows. More info on the Drive can be found at GHSC.NET.

Extra 2019/20 Yearbooks

We have a handful of 2019/20 Yearbooks leftover after their distribution. You can purchase a copy, and we will deliver it to your house or leave at the school office for pickup. You can purchase your copy of last year's yearbook on the GHSC TOOLKIT STORE.

Spirit Day: Superhero Day

The first Spirit Day of the school year SUPER HERO DAY, scheduled for Friday, September 11th. Your student is welcome to dress up wearing their favorite superhero costume for school on 9/11 during their class zooms.

We want to encourage parents to SNAP a PHOTO or two of your SUPERHERO and share it on your Class Shutterfly Site.

Introducing Yearbook Monthly Competition

Each month the Yearbook Team will be sponsoring a friendly competition between the grades or classes. Guadalupe Parents have always been our most significant contributors to the Guadalupe Yearbook. This year, parents like you are now our lifeline. We are working to create new content for the yearbook to cover classic spreads of events that are not possible with distance learning.

We are asking parents to take photos at home and share them on their Class Shutterfly Site. The photo competition and it's winners will be shared with the students in the Monday Morning Announcements. This month, we start with our First Battle of the Grades; students and their families are asked to showcase their GRIZZLY PRIDE by taking a photo of themselves showing their pride. The grade with the most submissions will receive a special treat during class. For more information on sharing your photos, please visit GHSC.NET.

Class & Grade Socials COMING SOON

Recently all of the Room Parents participated in a NEW training session for being a Room Parent in Distance Learning. This year the Room Parents' focus is to build more connections for students & their families within the classes and grades. Starting in September, your Room Parent will be reaching out to announce either a class recess or student social ZOOM in the coming weeks. This social format is new for all of them, so please be patient. If you are interested in helping organize or help with the recess a social, you don't have to be a Room Parent. Email roomparent.ghsc@gmail.com, and we will connect you with your Room Parent(s) make these socialization opportunities a reality.

Limited Edition T-shirt Design is HERE!

The 2020 Toolkit Raffle T-Shirt DESIGN has arrived. This T-shirt design is limited edition, and each of the winning families of the Raffle will receive a shirt for each of the Guadalupe student in your family. Parents can still enter their family into the Raffle by merely logging onto GHSC Toolkit. Returning families need to confirm their family information for the new school year, or new families can create a new account. The DEADLINE to enter the Raffle COMING FAST, this Monday, September 7th, by midnight.

5th Grade Yearbook Ads

Returning this year to the Guadalupe Yearbook are the 5th Grade Yearbook Ads. Parents can create a special message for their 5th grader who will be moving onto middle school next year.

The ads come in three sizes:

Quarter Page
Half Page
Full Page

The best part is a portion of your ad cost will be a donation towards the 5th Grade Class Gift. The 5th Grade Ads can be purchased on GHSC Toolkit.

Yearbook Page Designers Needed

Are you pretty handy creating holiday cards, books, or calendar on Shutterfly, or enjoy working with photos? We need your help with the Guadalupe Yearbook. The 20/21 Guadalupe Yearbook is going to be even more creative this year.

We will be hosting TWO Brainstorming Sessions on 9/10 @ 9:30 AM & 8:00 PM

During an August Community Meeting, parents expressed concern navigating Google Classroom to check their student's progress. We heard your concern, and found a district walkthrough video for parents navigate, here is a link to Google Classroom Tutorial.
