Zoom Meeting Emotional Concerns: Some parents brought up concerns about their child not wanting to attend class zoom meetings, feeling that the virtual connection only made them miss seeing their friends even more. A suggestion was shared that perhaps reaching out to a smaller subset of friends within the classroom and scheduling a zoom chat session where there is more of an intimate setting. Another parent suggested the idea of having a video recording of their own child in that class, then sharing that recording with the child who is feeling overwhelmed by the zoom call. Getting to watch the video of the class call could initiate some excitement for the student to want to join in on the next classroom live Zoom call.
Talking About Emotions: We touched on how parents can connect better with students and their emotions. Dale expressed keeping an open dialogue with your student by checking in each week. This is a topic we can touch base on the next community meeting.
